U.S.
to boost aid to Afghanistan
WASHINGTON Secretary of State Colin Powell said Wednesday a prospective
military strike in Afghanistan against the al-Qaida terrorism network would be
only the first step in the U.S. campaign against terrorism. At the same time,
the Bush administration was preparing to substantially boost its humanitarian
aid to Afghanistan.
Senators
agree on anti-terror bill
WASHINGTON Senate Democrats and the Bush administration reached agreement
Wednesday on a package of new police powers to combat terrorism. A House committee
sent its own compromise package to the full House for approval.

progress on President Bush's attempt to give law enforcement officials more tools
