AP correction: Rescue story of 5 NY firefighters inaccurate

By The Associated Press

NEW YORK - A report Thursday of five firefighters rescued in an SUV under the World Trade Center debris is not correct.

Two firefighters did, however, make their way out of an undergound pocket, and emerged safely. They had been missing since this morning.

An earlier report, which came in an off-the-record briefing by a police spokesman, stated that five firefighters were pulled alive from the World Trade Center rubble Thursday, more than two days after the landmark twin towers collapsed in a terrorist attack. The story said the five had been trapped in a buried SUV since Tuesday.
