DALLAS - A day after opting to play football this weekend, the
Big 12 Conference on Thursday joined a group of major conferences
deciding to put off their games because of the terrorist attacks
in New York and Washington.
On Wednesday, the Big 12 had announced that all but one game would
be played Saturday. The lone exception was No. 4 Nebraska postponing
its game until next Thursday because its opponent, Rice, was shutting
down its athletic department for the weekend.
Before the Big 12 announcement Thursday, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 12
Kansas State and Texas Tech had their games against Western Athletic
Conference schools postponed.
Makeup dates for OU and Tulsa, K-State and Louisiana Tech, and
Tech and UTEP were not immediately announced. The Tech-UTEP game
already had been postponed from Thursday night.
There also was no word when the other games would be played.
They are: Iowa State at Iowa, Colorado at Washington State, Baylor
at Minnesota, Missouri at Michigan State, Wyoming at Kansas, and
Northern Arizona at Oklahoma State.
No. 5 Texas and Texas A&M had the weekend off.
In addition to the Big 12, the Big Ten and Southeastern conferences
also changed their plans and announced they would not play this
weekend.
