Retrieving bodies, chasing terrorists
Fires burned, buildings crumbled and the death toll mounted Wednesday in New York and Washington as a stunned nation tried to cope with a terrorist attack that left thousands of people dead or missing.

FBI says it has identities of hijackers
WASHINGTON –The FBI said its agents had confirmed most of the hijackers' identities, using airline passenger lists, intercepted phone calls and Internet records. They served search warrants in three states and detained people for questioning but, by late Wednesday, had made no arrests directly linked to Tuesday's strikes on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon

Search-and-rescue workers ordered to leave Pentagon damage site; hopes dim for survivors
WASHINGTON – Search-and-rescue workers at the Pentagon were temporarily evacuated Thursday morning following a telephoned bomb threat, a U.S. official said. Crews had worked through the night with little hope for finding more survivors.
