Anthrax test negative in NYT letterAssociated Press 10/13/01 NEW YORK A powdery white substance in an envelope received by a New York Times reporter tested negative in a preliminary test for anthrax, the newspaper said Saturday. The test, also for other dangerous biological materials, was conducted by the New York City Department of Health. Results from additional tests by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are not expected until Tuesday, Times spokeswoman Catherine Mathis said. Judith Miller, the reporter who received the letter, and about 30 others in the area where the envelope was opened Friday, are taking antibiotics and will continue their regimen until the CDC tests are complete, Mathis said. Results of anthrax tests conducted on the Times employees are expected Monday. |
