Budget surplus declines for 2001
WASHINGTON ­ The sour economy and tax rebates made for a smaller, $127 billion surplus for the 2001 budget year compared with the record bounty produced the year before, the Bush administration announced today.

Dow closes down 275 points
NEW YORK — Investors, unsure that the market's month-long recovery will continue, cashed in their winnings Monday and sent stocks sharply lower. The Dow Jones industrials fell more than 275 points.
