NEW YORK – Wall Street showed more signs of strength Monday as stocks rallied on earnings reports that were satisfactory but not stellar.

Index of leading indicators drops 0.5 percent
NEW YORK – A key gauge of future U.S. economic activity declined 0.5 percent last month, as the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks weakened an already troubled economy.

Postal Service to seek financial assistance in wake of attacks
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Postal Service will seek financial assistance from Congress to help it deal with added costs and reduced mail volume resulting from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the anthrax scare.
